Sommelier of LEO restaurant offers Brunello di Montalcino wine (Casanova di Neri) from our wine tasting offer
Italy, Red Wine
Brunello di Montalcino is an elegant and complex wine having a fleshy texture with common aromas and flavors of blackberry, black cherry, black raspberry, chocolate, leather and violets. The high acidity of the wine allows it to pair well with food, especially grilled meat and game dressed with intense sauces. Brunello is the grape which the wine is made of.
History of the Wine
Tuscany is the most well-known and the second biggest wine-making region in Italy. It is located in the part of the country. Mountains and sea determine its climate diversity. There is a marine climate in the central part with mild winter and not very hot summer.
In 1716 the Grand Duke of Tuscany defined wine-making areas within the region which gave impulse to development of wine-making. And, of course, when speaking of Tuscany one cannot but mentioned such wines as:
- Super Tuscans;
- Chianti;
- Nobile di Montepulciano;
- Brunello di Montalcino.
However, this Brunello di Montalcino wine that is considered to be one of the most exclusive and famous wines in Italy. In old times the name Brunello for the locals didn't refer to a wine, but to the grape grown around Montalcino hills. However, it gained more and more in reputation in 1960 and it became, perhaps the most esteemed of Italian quality wines.
