Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a red wine that requires aging. This wine is often described as earthy with gamy flavors
that have hints of red fleshed fruit, leather, fresh wood and herbs. It fits to cheeses, spicy stew,
beef and poultry dishes.
History of the Wine
Chateauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most renowned vineyards in France well-known for its red wines.
It is located on the left bank northward from Avignon. Pope John XXII went down in the worldwide
wine-making history after he built a castle in a valley of the Rhone River and ordered to plant
vineyards around it. Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation (which roughly translates to "The Pope's
new castle") is now known as one of the most unique wine which is being produced of a mixture of
five up to thirteen grape varieties.
